If you have not heard, Executive Trading Cards is making waves with their "politicians" set out in hobby shops now. What is unique is that they offer a "buyback" policy on certain cards and maintain their value like stocks on their website. It is a very cool idea and a bridge that the hobby has needed. Their chase cards? well, they offer cards that are full 22K gold. How about that? Stay tuned for a break preview of their cards this week, but Justen VanGrinsven agreed to answer 5 questions for the collectors at SCH.....

1. What inspired you guys to create a trading card company based on politics and why now?

The idea to make a trading card came after the election last year. We couldn't find anyone at that time that was creating political cards that represented up to date players the same way sports do. We wanted to focus on the Senators, and Representatives, the entire 111th congress, including the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Federal Government.

2. How often is Executive Trading planning on releasing products?

We have several products in the works that are top secret, but for this product, "Politicians" we are releasing the full set in 2 Series, Series 1/2 and in a few months Series 2/2. The next congress "112th" will take effect in January of 2011, so we will release a new set at that time.


3. Are you considering any other lines besides politics?

We are considering releasing other products, but we can not comment on that much now, as they are in the works..

4. Will Executive Trading consider issuing autographs or memorabilia with their products?

Autographs and Memorabillia are something we would like to focus on in the future, we have had several requests fot that, for now, I think we are one of the only companies to release actual 22K gold cards, and a full set of Politicians. As a start up company it takes a while to get a feel for what your customers want, and sales can suffer because of that, however, because of that this first set could most likely end up being the rarest, and most collectable.

5. What inspired the innovative "buyback" policy that Executive Trading offers?

The buyback policy is something to stabalize value.. I love getting a rare card, and reading how much it's worth in Beckett, only to find it greatly underbid on E-bay. This takes the value and fun out of the card, and undermines Beckett's reputation. Before the internet this wasn't a problem, and shops were buying cards at a 10% or so discount, now the value is all over the place. I wanted to give that back to our customers, and Beckett, by building it in to the cost of our card.. Yeah we cost a little more, but you get what you pay for, and our customers can know that these cards will hold their value.
